What Is the Difference between Self Hypnosis and Meditation?

This is a common doubt in the minds of people interested in soul searching as a lot of misconceptions exists about meditation and self-hypnosis.

Many people believe that there is no difference between self-hypnosis and meditation because in both the processes you actually focus towards the vast inner world of yours.

However, there is only a single difference between them that really makes them two entirely different processes.

The Difference

The dissimilarity lies in the “aim” or “goal”. In meditation, your mind is free and independent to accept and observe whatever comes up from the ripples and waves arising inside your mind.

Whereas during self-hypnosis, you have a specific aim – You are there to improve something about yourself or maybe to reprogram your subconscious mind for changing certain unwanted behavioral patterns.

You can also get rid of the limiting beliefs that block your success with the help of self-hypnosis.

Meditation Is Broad and Boundless

What happens when you don’t have any fixed place to go but you have started a journey? It becomes exciting and mysterious, as you don’t know what’s coming next.

Meditation is a journey to your inner world, and here you don’t give any directions to your mind but you let your wise inner self-guide you and show you whatever is necessary for you in that moment.

Every spiritual experience that you may have while doing meditation is new and special, meditation is something where you just enjoy the beauty of the now moment by increasing your present moment awareness.

It is like sailing your ship in the ocean without knowing where you are, and where are you going but, you will reach a new island every time!

Self Hypnosis Sessions Are Focused towards Goals

You have a navigator in your hand during self-hypnosis because you know where you have to focus during those sessions.

Before going into a trance you set your goals, you send a strong message to your subconscious mind with the help of your “intent”, this is often done by using repeated affirmations.

Unlike meditation, here you will have a specific path to follow, a pre-planned procedure that is based on a specific purpose.

This means, in self-hypnosis, you reprogram your subconscious mind.

Is There Something More to It?

Yes, there is much more than just that. During self-hypnosis, you are trying to communicate with your subconscious mind.

However, during meditation you surrender to the infinity by going beyond the logical mind(conscious mind), this is why the experiences that you can have during meditations are mystical and wonderful.

Both self-hypnosis and meditation are vital for your personal growth but always remember that they both are two completely different processes..!!

When it comes to meditation I like insight meditation, and when it is about using hypnosis to improve your life, I recommend Marisa Peer’s Uncompromised Life course the most.
