4 Reasons Why Using Binaural Beats for Lucid Dreaming Is a Bad Idea
Is using binaural beats for lucid dreaming safe? Are there any side effects of listening to brainwave entrainment audios while sleeping? I will be answering all these questions in this post from the knowledge I have gained with my experience as a lucid dreamer all these years.
I have made a post on the possible side effects of binaural beats earlier where I have mentioned how binaural beats have had some undesirable effects on me, but here I want to give you some very important reasons for not using these audios especially for the purpose of becoming a conscious dreamer.
There are so many products and audios available these days where they tell you that the brainwave frequency of lucid dreams is yadda, yadda, yadda and you can simply have lucid dreams by listening to those tracks while sleeping.
I like to speak from my heart and being someone who has been lucid dreaming as well as helping others with the same for years, it becomes utterly important for me to inform people that all those brainwave entrainment audios are not good for you.
Some people may argue with me on this saying that they have had lucid dreams using binaural beats and I don’t like to oppose them because they are speaking the truth, I also have had lucid dreams with the use of those audios but it kills the beauty of it.
If you want to be a lucid dreamer then you simply need to do a few things that are essential for conscious dreaming. Consistent efforts will help you to explore your dream world like any skill you perfect with practice.
These sounds surely do help you to have your first lucid dream but there are easier methods for inducing lucid dreams that are safer and better, why use something that leaves you dissatisfied?
Here are some reasons why I don’t recommend brainwave entrainment for the purpose of inducing lucid dreams:-
1 – Disturbing Your Natural Sleeps
We all have a natural sleep cycle which consists of two states mainly viz. REM state (rapid eye movement) where dreams/lucid dreams happen and non-REM state where deep sleep occurs.
If you will sleep with your earplugs on and play brainwave entrainment tracks, it will definitely keep your mind more active than usual. Lucid dreaming happens in the REM phase but if you will like to stay in that state longer than your natural duration then you won’t be having deep sleeps that’s essential for your mental peace.
Trust me, you never want to mess up your natural sleep cycles at any cost. If you are very interested in using these tracks, better prefer to use them for short daytime naps.
2 – Not Safe
I have always been a little cautious with the use of binaural beats since I had headaches after using them regularly for a while and that’s why I don’t recommend it much.
But people have used it without problems for sure and there are many who suggest its usage, however, there are also those who report having bad experiences after using them, you can read many such stories in the comment section of my post on harmful effects of binaural beats.
Though it is not my opinion that brainwave entrainment is not safe entirely, I just ask people to avoid the extreme use of it. Sleeping while listening to those audios is not a good habit.
3 – Increases the Probability of Troublesome Dreams
If you want to be a conscious dreamer, then you simply cannot ever avoid some dangerous appearing dream experiences like lucid nightmares, sleep paralysis and false awakenings.
When you learn lucid dreaming naturally, you also learn to deal with the obstacles but one bad experience without the essential practical knowledge can leave you terrified forever.
Using brainwave entrainment keeps your mind too active which can result in frequent bad dreams, especially sleep paralysis.
4 – Lucid Dreaming Is a Skill
Lucid dreaming has a greater purpose than what most people know, I have had some amazing lucid dream experiences that I know would never happen with the use of brainwave entrainment technology because learning to swim and using a boat are two different things, if know what I mean.
Being in the water and enjoying it is a far more exhilarating than looking at it by sitting on a boat. There are some lucid dreaming facts that only a few advanced conscious dreamers can understand, getting a glimpse of it with the use of brainwave entrainment tracks is like looking at the tip of the iceberg.
I guess these points are enough for someone serious about lucid dreaming to understand that listening to even the so-called best binaural beats for lucid dreaming is not a wise decision.
Even if you are doing it for mere experimenting purpose then also there are better ways I believe would be perfect for a good beginning, like doing the reality checks properly is enough to gain the necessary awareness for conscious dreaming.
For some people, like in my case, it becomes too difficult to have the very first lucid dream and that happens due to desperation. If you will leave the efforts for a while and then try again after taking a break it will work.
However, your overall skills as a lucid dreamer will develop gradually with practice and for that, I recommend that you opt for some good program like Andrew Holecek’s Dream Sculpting rather than wasting your money or time on materials that are “technique” based and not knowledge-based.
If you will learn proper methods and get full knowledge about lucid dreaming, you can definitely explore your dream world so vividly that it starts feeling just like the real world.
