In this post, I am going to share a few simple mindfulness exercises for beginners using which anyone can tame the voice inside his head to an extent that it stops killing their peace of mind.
When a person begins any spiritual practice to regain his peace of mind, all the judgments that he has formed about spirituality whether consciously or unconsciously hinders his progress and thus, he fails to benefit from those techniques.
So, first of all I would urge you to drop any assumptions you might have formed in your mind about the “state” you could achieve using mindfulness.
Mindfulness is a form of meditation which allows you to detach yourself from the incessant flow of thoughts by bringing your focus completely to the present moment.
The present moment awareness is the key to liberate your mind from disturbing thoughts of past and future; this is why mindfulness is a powerful technique to treat most of the problems that arises due to unwanted thinking.
People often misjudge the effectiveness of mindfulness practices due to its simplicity, but those who will trust it and implement it in their lives will surely succeed to improve their mental state.
The exercises that I am going to share here are especially helpful for beginners because it is something that can be practiced by anyone in their day to day activities.
I have specially picked up these techniques for people who are too busy to sit and mediate: –
Set an intention that from now every time when somebody will speak to you, you will listen more attentively.
Active listening not only gives you a good opportunity to know others better but it also frees you from your “self talk” so that you could focus on what is happening in the present moment.
Listen without judgments or formulating the response inside your head even before the other person has finished talking.
If you can just “listen” with more alertness the perfect response will automatically come. Everything else is not response, but reaction.
Small actions that you perform involuntarily gives you a good opportunity to become more present and free yourself from the thoughts that captures your attention during those times.
One such example is when you brush your teeth. You can become a conscious observer and watch the way you move the brush, that particular action has been put on automatic pilot by you from years, so you can even try a slightly different style perhaps.
You can also do it while having a cup of coffee by paying more attention to its smell and taste.
There are hundreds of such daily activities where we are not actually present; our body performs those actions while our mind wanders.
Being mindful in these small actions helps us to avoid the unwanted thoughts in which our mind frequently gets engaged.
This is probably something which will change your view about mindfulness because many people consider that mindfulness is a boring task.
Yes, you can practice the present moment awareness in something very interesting like listening to your favorite music. However, this time you will do it in a bit different way.
You must not choose a song/music which kindles your past memories or defines “your persona” in any way.
Play a song to which you don’t have any kind of attachment and enjoy it “as it is”, pay close attention to the details of the music and observe the feelings it brings to you.
I choose to listen songs of different languages for this purpose as I am able to focus on the music rather than meaning by doing that.
One of the best ways to bring your mind to the present moment is when you travel, most of us do it naturally and that is why we all enjoy traveling a lot.
Yet, people who are highly dominated by worrisome thoughts are not at all aware of the journey; they are only concerned about reaching to the destination.
It could be your commute to workplace or grocery store, it gives you a good chance to enjoy the present moment, all you have to do is to be more present while you get from one place to another rather than being preoccupied by the need to reach to the destination.

In this post, I am going to bring a few breathing exercises for panic attacks which can really prove out to be a good tool for you to calm yourself when you get those troublesome panic attacks.
Our breathing has a lot to do with our emotional states and various mind states produces different types of breathing patterns, it is hard to discern these variations in our breath during normal mood changes since the change is very insignificant but, in cases of serious emotional imbalances it becomes very obvious.
The good news is that we can use our breathing to deal with seemingly insurmountable emotional problems whether let it be fear, anxiety or depression.
In case of panic attacks it is undoubtedly impossible to press an immediate escape button however with practice you can really learn to relieve yourself by regulating your breathing patterns.
Deep breathing is not a good thing to do during hyperventilation, we will discuss about it later but, in all other cases you can definitely benefit from the deep breathing exercises that I am going to discuss here.
These exercises are very appropriate to be used to avoid intense emotional trouble if you can detect the symptoms prior to the attacks (which most patients can do with experience).
Again, this is a very easy exercise which you can perform at any place and time according to your convenience.
To do this, sit straight by keeping your spine erect and take a long deep breath in by slowly counting up to four, then hold your breath for another count of four and exhale by again counting from 1-4, repeat until you feel relaxed.
Belly breathing is a very simple deep breathing exercise which you can use anywhere, anytime.
Just place both your hands on your belly and slowly inhale feeling your belly expand out, hold your breath for a while and then exhale by feeling your belly contract back…Repeat it several times till you feel relieved.
This exercise might seem too easy to be effective but, do not judge it by its simplicity because it brings your attention to your breath by taking it off from the disturbing feelings and thus stops it from ascending.
Panic attacks are mostly accompanied by hyperventilation, the symptoms are deep long rapid breath, dizziness, sweating, numbness and nausea
The cause of hyperventilation is excessive removal of carbon dioxide from the body that occurs due to frequent deep breaths and that’s why deep breathing is not good in such cases.
Don’t worry there is a solution.
In nadi shodan pranayam you breathe from alternate nostrils and therefore it helps in balancing the carbon dioxide in your body.
To do this, sit in cross legged position and keep your back straight. Now, press your right nostril with your right thumb and inhale from your left nostril.
Hold your breath for a while and then exhale from your right nostril by pressing the left one with your right ring finger.
Now, reverse the process and repeat for at least 10 minutes.
This is another common problem faced by patients suffering from panic attacks; all of a sudden they feel it hard to breathe.
In real it is a false feeling because they are actually breathing in such situations but, due the intense stress caused by the panic attack they forget to exhale and they focus only on inhaling.
So when you feel like this, make sure to recognize your true condition and exhale before you try to breathe in.
All these exercises are helpful for your emotional troubles because mindful-breathing brings your mind into the present moment and allows you to gain a better control of it.
This is a personal development blog and these are just a few yogic and mindfulness exercises using which you can treat your emotional problems, try them and find if it works for you.
If you are under treatment then please do continue with it along with these exercises.

Today I am going to share with you a few mindfulness exercises for anxiety which will help you to calm down your mind chatter and thus will allow you to achieve more serenity.
Inner peace is the most important aspect of a happy life, in today’s busy world people totally forget to take care of their mental as well as physical health until they get sick.
Any mental or physical illness is the body’s way of reminding that you have forgotten fulfilling your basic requirement in life that is to take care of your health.
Especially, if you don’t do anything to refresh your mind like the way you push the reset button in your computer, you will have to pay a heavy price in the future.
Anxiety and depression are the two most common diseases that results from the carelessness of an individual towards his emotional states.
Luckily, we have a very good tool to fix them both which is mindfulness meditation and our focus in this post would be treating anxiety.
Before that, let us look into the root cause of anxiety and depression..(because that is essential before you get to know the solution)
Most of the mental problems like frustration, anger, depression, anxiety etc are the consequences of a person not being conscious of his own thoughts, feelings and actions.
By this I mean to say that such troubles are a cumulative result of many negative thoughts which resulted into negative feelings and then became a repeating emotional pattern.
So, to avoid such illness a person has to become more aware of what is going on in his mind and then only he can consciously choose to detach himself from the voices that he hears in his head, which keeps him in lower emotional states.
Although, all the emotional troubles have a common root, I would like to highlight the main cause of depression and anxiety now.
Both of these mental illness are caused by a person’s inability to focus on the present moment which means that he constantly dwells in the past or future. All his actions become unconscious while he is either imagining the future events or replaying past incidences in his mind.
Depression is born from a person’s mind being too obsessed by the thoughts of unfavorable past events whereas anxiety is caused by a person’s worry about the future events.
Mindfulness can treat both of these emotional troubles since it helps one to become conscious of the present moment.
Yes, if you will follow the simple steps to be mindful in various moments of your life then you can successfully pull yourself out of any such addictive habits of mind.
By having a better control over your thoughts and feelings you can completely transform your life and mindfulness teaches you that in the simplest way possible, and one of its major advantage is that you can perform it anywhere and anytime unlike the conventional meditation methods.
This is my favorite one and I learned it from Eckhart Tolle’s teachings, I love this one because by doing this you are turning your weakness into strength.
Keep a watch on your thoughts and you will find that your mind has only a few very common issues using which it keeps you engaged..Identify those subjects and make it an alarm to become aware of the “now’ moment.
For example- I used to think a lot about a friend who betrayed me, my mind will come up with hundreds of thoughts around this subject like “I must have not trusted that friend”, “I will never allow anyone to come that close to me”, “How can someone be that shallow” etc etc.. then one day I chose that friend as my alarm!
So, whenever I am thinking about that friend, my mind(which earlier presented me a hundred reasons to feel bad) alerts me to practice the present moment awareness.
Once you have found a trigger and it starts to remind you to be mindful…Just take a few deep breaths and watch your thoughts as an observer, gently allow them to come and go.. become aware of every thought and try to find that state of “emptiness” when you have no thoughts. The longer you can do this the more peaceful you will feel.
In this method you focus on the information that any of the five senses is bringing to you.
It could be sounds, visuals, smells, touch or taste you actively observe them “as it is” without labeling them.
I have discussed this in more detail in the post-Learn to Expand Your Consciousness with Simple Mindfulness Exercises
This is an exercise for which you will have to take a few minutes from your daily routine.
To do this, find a silent place and sit in any relaxed position:-
First, Take ten conscious deep breaths and clear your mind from the residual thoughts.
Now, start by feeling your scalp, forehead and gently move your attention to every part of your body from top to bottom..do this gradually and imagine that wherever you are focusing that body part is getting relaxed.
This is a very effective way to press the “reset” button of which I talked earlier.
So, these were few quick ways to escape from the thoughts which cause disturbances in your mind that can further grow and become a very big problem in your life if it is not fixed at the right time.
You can practice these exercises to treat your anxiety issues but do not stop following the advice of your doctor (if you are under medical treatment).

As humans, we all make this mistake of attaching our happiness with our desires. However, our happiness does not depend on any external factor, I know it is a bit difficult to accept, but that is the truth.
People who are happy most of the time have developed a very important state of mind where they don’t depend on other people’s opinions, any material possessions or circumstances to feel good.
Depression is a condition in which a person gets possessed by negative thoughts and it is often very difficult to overcome that state.
Spiritual practices have proved to be very efficient in curing anxiety and depression for a lot of people (including me) so, I am quite sure that what I am going to discuss with you here will equip you with some real working methods that could increase your happiness level.
Seeking spiritual help for depression is one of the best steps that anyone could ever take in order to come out of the trouble caused by the lower emotions, but I would suggest you continuing with the medications ( if you have been taking any) and to apply these spiritual methods regularly with a strong faith.
Any kind of emotional trouble indisputably has some kind of spiritual cause, it is often so subtle that the individual never gets to know it unless he takes the help of a therapist or gets involved in spiritual growth activities.
All kinds of suffering is a result of the person getting too far from his true nature or we can say that he gets away from his higher self (which is an illusion because you can never get away from your higher self), this causes a change of perception which makes him too see the lack of love all around him.
So, all the methods that I am going to discuss below are the ways using which you could connect back to your higher self.
Mostly, people get into such states due to toxic relationships, troubled childhood or unfulfilled desires. And behind these happenings, there is a very insidious belief operating that is “I am not good enough” or “I am not worthy”.
With this belief ingrained in one’s subconscious, he unconsciously tries to get the approval of others continuously and when he fails- He becomes reluctant in allowing himself to be happy!
To bring the feelings of love for yourself, you should get engaged in activities that make you happy and should keep being in a happy state as your top priority.
Using positive affirmations like-“I am loved”, with joyful feelings can prove to be very effective here.
If would like to read more about self-love then check out my post –“6 Common Myths about Self Love”.
If your depression is caused by any kind of emotional incidence then you may like to check out the post “Healing the Emotional Pain Caused by Toxic Relationships and Memories That Destroys One’s Serenity “.
Here is the second most dangerous belief that could badly lower an individual’s self-esteem resulting into his inability to feel higher emotions- Victim Mentality.
Victim mentality is a consequence of the undesired events from a person’s past, especially childhood.
Those who blame others for their miseries are the ones who have this strong mind conditioning which makes them a victim.
People who have such convictions find themselves abandoned by God or Higher power, that’s why they have lost their hopes and when a person loses his hope he gets stuck in a particular unpleasant phase of life.
In the sessions of her unlimited abundance course, Christie Regularly performs the energy clearance on the “victim beliefs” as she highlights in her program that this is the block which makes most people to suffer.
In order to change these beliefs you will have to strengthen your faith in the higher power, you will have to trust that the greater power will support you always and to do that you will have to replace your old self image which was of “victim” with the new one that is of “winner”.
Use affirmations and visualization to change your old beliefs, read my post “Allow Your Abundance” to know more.
This is the most important process using which you could heal yourself spiritually and invite more good feelings in your life.
The process of meditation allows you to relax and connect with your higher self, doing it regularly will allow your mind to be at peace which will naturally bring you to the state of joy.
There are many ways to meditate, but a very simple technique is to sit in a relaxed position and take deep breaths, observing the thoughts and feelings, allowing them to come and go gently without any kind of resistance. Doing this for few minutes daily will have significant effects on your moods.
Mindfulness is a form of meditation, its simplicity and effectiveness makes it a perfect remedy for people suffering from emotional pain.
Not only for depression, but mindfulness is also very helpful in enabling people to experience greater inner peace and thus it makes their mind to perform better.
In simple terms, mindfulness is the process which brings your mind to the present moment. Since, depression is caused by the thoughts of past and anxiety is the result of worrisome thoughts of future, these two emotional issues can be successfully treated with the help of mindfulness meditation.
You just need to bring your attention to whatever you are doing at any particular moment whether let it be the action of eating, walking, working, or anything you just need to be completely present and watch your own actions as an observer.
You can read more about this in the post “Learn to Expand Your Consciousness with Simple Mindfulness Exercises”.
I recommend this to a lot of people especially to those who are new to meditation. Feeling lower emotions could be a symptom of a blocked heart chakra.
Christie Marie Sheldon’s heart center awakening meditation is a free audio which she offers for her subscribers so, just download it from here and listen to it every morning for best results.
This is the most underestimated process among people who have come to know about its role in affecting their emotional states.
Like meditation, gratitude is also a process which is backed up by research works that it can elevate your happiness level.
So, do keep a gratitude journal in which you can write daily about the things for which you are grateful in your life. I prefer to express my gratitude before having my meals, in this way it becomes a ritual.

There is a lot of information available these days on the law of attraction and the art of deliberate creation which offers you numerous tools to attract the life of your desire.
Undoubtedly you can achieve or have your dream life if you learn to use these tools properly and if you gain a good understanding of how the laws of universe works but, reaching anywhere in life won’t give you happiness until you learn to live in the present moment.
Yes, the law of attraction can bring you the desired car, house, wealth or ideal life partner, but it can’t bring you the “joy”.
The irony here is we are all looking for “joy” in the outside appearances of life without knowing that we are actually trying to find happiness in the mind made illusions when it is something which is related to our inner world.
In life, we all have the option to create our external reality and try to seek the “joy” in the life we have attracted or to find our “joy” first and then to create our external reality playfully.
To find the “joy”, one has to live his life purpose.
If you have been thinking that we all have a unique life purpose to fulfill for which the god has sent us on this planet then let me tell you it is not at all true, god gave us our free will to decide our life purpose!
So, if we have the option to choose our life purpose then we can choose anything right? Why is then that we should bother about finding our life purpose?
It’s because we have to find the place in this planet which truly gives us happiness, as Jose Campbell put it we have to “follow our bliss” and in order to do that we will have to find out what in this world does gives us our true happiness..this varies from person to person.
Our desires in life are usually motivated by the concepts or judgments that we have formed in our mind consciously or unconsciously.
For example- Movies or stories has wired our brain in a way that getting a perfect life partner will complete our life..we have been watching them since childhood.. “and they lived happily ever after”.
This is a deeply rooted unconscious belief which makes people to search a partner who can make them happy..!!
Similarly we have so many false ideas about what in life will give us happiness.
Finding our life purpose is however not that difficult, it is just what makes us happy…
It’s Not….
..Something which will earn us money..(People confuse earning money with their life purpose the most; there are tons of ways to make money)
..Something we will achieve in future (You can do it now)
..Something we can only do when the conditions are appropriate
..Something that will give us any kind of advantage in outside world
It is simply doing something which makes us to feel good. However, it can give us all other things listed above but that is secondary.
When you find your life purpose and start to follow it you get into to a rare state of mind which is called as the state of flow.
The state of flow happens when you are happy with your current life doing whatever you are doing presently and you also have visions he future. In this state a person is in a meditation like condition where he completely enjoys what he is doing.
In such a state a person is totally in the present moment as a result of which manifestations of his desires happens with ease and the universe starts to arrange perfect happenings in order to fulfill his visions.
But, do you know what the best part of all this is?
It is that the person’s happiness does not anymore depends on what he is getting in the outside world, he of course enjoys what he has gained in his outside life but, it is all like a fun play for him which won’t affect his emotional state.

Every incidence in our life which makes us to suffer emotionally has a great impact on our spiritual body or our energy system.
While you may try your best to not think about the past but it seems too hard to forget what happened to you because your energy system is loaded with negative energy patterns which attracts thoughts that feeds your current emotional status.
Whether let it be a one sided love or betrayal, the pain causes a block in your energy system which stops you from thinking positively, the whole world seems hostile to a person who has gone through a heart break.
Time definitely works as a great healer and it changes a person’s emotional state automatically so, if you could just let a few days/months pass without dwelling in the past then you will naturally find yourself getting free of such emotional pain.
On an external level you may feel okay after the time gap, but your inner world may still need healing because you might have developed a negative energy pattern around the subject of “love” and this will further attract circumstances and events which will again cause the similar kind of suffering.
You might have noticed this in your and other people’s life- We all keep on attracting similar life situations until we have altered our core beliefs about the subject.
For Example- A woman who has been cheated by her boyfriend will develop a strong negative beliefs about men like “all men are disloyal” and due to her such belief she will keep on attracting disloyal men in her life until she realizes that some inner work is needed or she gets emotionally unavailable for the rest of her life.
Now, we know that after a heart break a person needs a little healing spiritually so, let us discuss this in a bit more detail.
We all have a energy body around us(aura) and it is the result of the set of beliefs that we have in our subconscious mind.
Our subconscious mind is programmed according to the set of ideas that were passed down to us by our society or our parents when we were growing up. If you have seen your mother in a lot of pain as a kid then you might have formed an energy pattern which attracts emotional pain.
People who in childhood have seen their parents fighting very often are very much likely to attract toxic relationships in their life.
The good news is that you can change your beliefs and reprogram your subconscious mind to attract beautiful and nurturing relationships; all you need is a little self analysis.
With the help of the feelings that you feel while thinking about a subject you can detect your subconscious mind programming about it, all you have is to feel good by deliberately finding better thoughts around that particular aspect of your life and feel better.
You can also prefer to find lot of positive evidences that will convince your mind that you are worthy to receive love and that a nurturing relationship is possible. Look for good evidences and you will start to see it everywhere. If you have a strong intent to find a lot of positive evidences than you will find them with ease.
The flow of love in your life depends on the well being of the heart chakra in your energy body. A lot of past incidences often cause a person to get his heart chakra blocked. When the energy flow is not proper through the heart chakra then a person is reluctant to receive love.
One of the best ways to open yourself to receive love is listening to Christie’s Heart Center Awakening meditation that is available for free download in her love or above free energy breakthrough kit(click to download).
So, all you have is to take a strong decision that you will only attract good relationships and work a little with your inner world in order see the outer results.
If you are interested in knowing more about how to keep your energy centers in a good state so that your life problems can be solved then you may want to check out Jeffery Allen’s Duality program.

Don’t make a big deal out of the low vibrations, it is normal and our energy is always moving back and forth from lower vibez to higher.
However, it is not advisable to live in an area which kills your positivity and by developing your awareness with spiritual practices like mindfulness meditation you can easily perceive any environment from the spiritual point of view.
In fact knowing the quality of vibrations in any particular place is very simple- At places where the energy is of higher quality you feel light and more in control of your thoughts, and at low vibe places you feel heavy and disturbed.
If your house or workplace is not vibrating in higher frequencies then you can see a lot of emotional imbalances in people present there and areas with a lot of lower density vibrations causes a lot of conflicts between people living there.
So, it is very important to keep your surrounding clear of such entities and that’s why today we will be discussing a few ways to remove negative energy from your home, you can use these methods for any other place as well. Continue reading
Recently, I have been through a time that put me into a confused state of mind which was neither letting me to move forward nor allowing me to be at peace with the present moment.
Great teachers have always taught that you don’t need to fix anything outside of you to live a happy life, all that’s essential is to be in harmony with your own existence.
That’s really difficult to understand because when nobody understands you,all your efforts are just making the situation worse and your mind is in a chaotic state such philosophies appears to be total bullshit.
The dominating emotions of an individual facing such circumstances are guilt, anger and resentment. If prolonged, these feelings can result into self sabotage.
It is very imperative to discern that our ego likes to play a victim and if you are not aware enough to detect this at the right time then you will be pulled into an insurmountable vicious cycle of negativity. Continue reading
We all have mental addictions; it is the self talk that we do all day long unconsciously.
Mindfulness activities help a person to enjoy his life by bringing his mind completely in the present (now) moment, setting a few hours for meditation helps a person to get more control over his thoughts but for a man living in today’s fast moving world it is hard to focus on the present moment or making mindfulness a way of living the life when he is busy in his daily routine.
Our problem is the addictive thought patterns that takes all the space in our mind, for example a person who is driving his car is engaged in thinking about the upcoming project in his office or worrying about his kids in the school, he becomes aware and conscious only when there is a need to slow down or push the brake suddenly.
The more you are able to escape your mental addictions and become aware of what you are doing now, the easier the life gets.
We have a certain set of programming patterns according to which we interpret our world and our rational mind is always engaged in arranging everything in our mind to be in accordance with that particular pattern, these are the mental addictions that we should consciously work on in order to live peacefully. When we come to realize the power of our emotions and positive thinking we all have this one worrisome problem and that is the fear of getting influenced by other people’s beliefs and thoughts.
Though we can always choose to leave conversations with strangers and the ones who does not matter much in our lives, but when it comes to people whom we love we have to listen to them despite knowing that such conversations are not only useless but also harmful for any kind of positive growth.
Sometimes, when we try to bring positivity in such places then people may also try to pull us down or invite us for an argument because they find it essential to defend their hard wired beliefs; however we have our free will to always stay detached from any conversation even by being an active listener.
With practice, active detached listening is possible ,but we must realize that once our mood or emotions changes during any conversation then we are losing the game and the other person’s negativity not only just starts to dominate us but it also pulls us to the place where they stand.
Here, I am going to discuss with you 10 simple exercises that you can use anytime and anywhere when you have to deal with negative people or situations and you don’t have the option of “escape” button, first 6 exercises are funny ways to protect yourself from any conversation that may fill your mind with negative thoughts and the next four exercises are to be used when you find yourself getting affected by other person’s words.
